Description

This session will focus on advanced features of the free databases offered by the JPO, SIPO, KIPO and TIPO. After a quick review of the functionalities of the English interfaces, participants will learn how to work with the original-language interfaces to supplement their searches and minimise potential gaps in the information provided. Topics to be covered will include:

a. retrieving documents and machine translations b. finding legal status information (including trials, term extensions) c. checking the payment of annual fees d. accessing the electronic file e. finding citation information.

Each participant will have access to a computer for hands-on exercises. Experience with the English interfaces of Asian sources would be useful, but knowledge of Asian languages is not required.
