In order to manage and monetize patents, we need a systematic approach to measure, evaluate and value them. Numerous headlines in business reports refer to intangible asset disputes and we know that a large part of corporate value is defined by its intellectual property and the means to defend it. So how can we put "a value" on patents ?
This training course provides you with an introduction on patent valuation. We will have a closer look at how patents can be quantified from a quality point of view, and we will introduce you to some standard approaches on finding the monetary value of patents. The training course includes an extensive case study making use of EPO's patent evaluation tool: IPscore.
- Foundation and importance of patent valuation
- Markets for technology, knowledge economy and knowledge market
- Patents and accountancy: fiscal rules, fundamentals and challenges
- Guidelines for patent valuation
- Use of IPscore
- Practical exercises and case studies
All support material and handouts will be in English. However, all our trainers and our administrative staff are trilingual and would be pleased to answer any questions or give explanations in French or German, too.
You will acquire a basic knowledge on patent valuation. You will be able to identify and quantify a set of factors that are commonly used in the evaluation of patents.
