This seminar offers advanced training related to examination practice in the field of computer-implemented inventions (CII). During the seminar, participants will receive presentations about substantive examination practice of CII. In particular, an in-depth training on dealing with complex cases related to exclusions from patentability, non technical vs. technical subject matter in CII applications, novelty, inventive step and sufficient disclosure will be provided, with extensive reference to EPO case law. Emphasis will be placed on hands-on case studies covering complex scenarios. Participants have extensive opportunity to discuss CII related issues with EPO experts, and to grasp EPO "best practice" in the field of CII. Furthermore, participants have the opportunity to discuss their own cases with EPO experts and the other participants.

Target groups

Participants must have at least four years’ professional experience in patent search and examination at a national patent office in the field of computers or in CII-related fields. A good command of spoken and written English is also required.
