Description

Gathering and interpreting patent data is of critical importance to policy-makers, statisticians and analysts working on innovation and related polices. This conference will discuss the latest tools available for providing patent statistics, for example databases which match companies with inventors, provide licensing information, index scientific publications or provide technological classifications.

Target groups

The event is targeted at experts, statisticians and analysts working in the fields of innovation, patents and science and technology policies, including:

• Policy makers and analysts dealing with innovation and patent policies
• Academics and researchers using patent data for economic and policy analysis
• National, regional and international patent institution;
• Producers and providers of patent statistics (e.g. patent offices, statistical offices, companies providing patent database services, etc.)
• Representatives of the business community
• Patent attorneys

• Data needs for policy and analytical uses
• Recent developments in patent databases
• Patent indicators for monitoring inventive activities; e.g. efficiency, organisation, location etc.
• Indicators for monitoring the patent system
• Spillovers and diffusion of knowledge
• Measuring the value of patents
• Linking patent statistics with complementary data: R&D data, bibliometrics, licensing, business surveys, corporate accounting etc.
